LeMan's Fuel Filler
454 Rebuild
June 2, 2002 at the American Legion Car Show, Clearview Mall, Butler PA.
June 2, 2002, I heard about a car show advertised on the radio one early June Saturday for a Sunday event. Well,it was close enough to home, so my wife, Mindy & I decided we could jaunt on up check out some of the other classics, do a little shopping and head back home. I was expecting another car-cruise type event. Now, I know the difference between a cruise and a "show". The cars there were absolutely beautiful in every respect. Truely show quality cars. The red '72 in the photo next to mine looked like it was built yesterday. There wasn't even a hint of dust or any smudges on any of the cars.
I had to register my '70 to be judged as we entered. Again, I didn't know any better so I said OK. Then when I saw some of the other cars, my heart just sank and I was almost embarrassed about the condition of my '70. My vette is about a 10ft car and my engine compartment could sure use a cleaning and painting. Fortunately no one treated us as outcasts. We stayed and talked with a few people and split after a couple hours. I wanted to stay for the judging and trophy's, but after a ZR-1 and a new Viper arrived and entered our "Class"(2-seater)I felt the final arrow hit me.
One thing for certain though, a lot of heads turned when I fired her up with the chambered pipes.

Just added original 1969 Factory side exhaust covers. They need a little polishing & buffing but will work for me.

This simple dipstick was a real PIA. Eventually I had to tap the pan inlet and use brass fittings.
Here's an original GM #3969835 Holley Carb heat shield.
Here's an item no longer available from GM. It's a Carb heat shield for a Holley. Not sure if I'll need it.

This is an impossible item to find. It is used on high performance motors like L78 L79 ZL1 LS6 396 427 454 with factory Holley carburetor. It was installed to help heat from reaching the fuel and heating it up. It allows the motor to run better, by keeping the fuel cool. This item is commonly missing from the car. It has a GM 3969835 stamping. This shield was used on 1968, 1969, 1970 Camaro's, Chevelle's, Corvette's, Yenko's, and Copo's. There is a picture from the 1970 assembly manual as a production option. Most people aren't even aware that was even used. They were taken off and thrown away.
I've seen these bid for well over $100 on eBay.
April 26, 2002. It was a beautiful day for pics.

Our dynamic duo. A 1970 L-46 and a '91 5.0 Mustang GT. I bought both vehicles from the same dealer. I first acquired the Mustang, it was in good shape, had 76,000 miles, wasn't leaking anything and still drove strong.

I call this my Baldwin Motion Shot. It reminds me of a few Baldwin Motion Phase III Corvettes I've seen.
