The new car

Superformance 427SC replica

OK,OK, I know it's not a Vette, but you gotta admit it's cool. We pretty much blew the budget in 2000 with the red car, so my wife urged me to find something more "affordable." Even though the car actually costs more than the old race car, it won't depreciate much and should be cheaper to run. We'll see. This is the kind of car that (almost) makes you want to be single again.
This car was manufactured by Superformance in South Africa. It has a 500 horsepower 393 cubic inch Ford Windsor motor, a Tremec TKO transmission, VERY big Baer Alcon brakes, a fullly indpendent suspension with adjustable coil-overs, and real knockoff wheels. Weighing only 2470 pounds, it has a better power to weight ratio than my Suzuki Bandit 1200. I intend to race this car with many of the same groups I raced the Vette with, although I'll be running the vintage class where the competition is less aggressive. I also like that I can drive it on the street and pick on pretty much anything.
The Cobra ran a 1:35 at Willow Springs recently. For comparison, my white car ran a best of 1:34 when the engine was all stock and a 1:32 with the top end kit installed. The red car ran in the 1:28 range. The Cobra has much better top speed than even the red car, but it doesn't handle like a Vette. Of course, the lack of "g-ability" is part of what makes the car so fun.
