Would you believe .821 lateral acceleration in the wet!-Tire Rack
Brother and I entered the 2004 One Lap of America put on by Tire Rack and Car and Driver Magazine. We came with a much more experienced driver, more power, and better chassis layout than we did in 2001-finishing 14th overall then.

We visited:

Heartland Park at Topeka Drag Strip
Heartland Park at Topeka Road Course
Pikes Peak International road course
Sears Point road course
Las Vegas Motorspeedway road course
Pueblo Motorsports Park road course
Hallet road course

We covered 7200 miles from start to finish from our home base in Omaha, Nebraska. What a journey...in 10 days!

We did not have many goals other than maybe getting in top ten, but the competition is always tough. Incredibly fortunate for us, some of the real players dropped out allowing us 1st in class and 9th overall out of 82 entries! We were even more ecstatic that the first time we did it. What a blast we had. We had a few issues that again didn't detract from the performance much-a loosening C beam and an incorrectly adjusted IAC.

Thanks goes out to Charley's Speed and Machine in Blair, Nebraska for the engine machining, Superior Chevrolet in Kansas City, Kansas for new wheels and brakes rotors, EJ's Dyno Shop in Omaha, Nebraska for dyno time, and finally Ty Baycura for a set of slightly used PFC 90 brake pads that allowed many stops from our ~145 MPH speeds into Road America's tight corners.

I again express my opinion that this event is the greatest street type opportunity that the average joe could enter. The playing field is levelled to such a degree that winning is possible for minimal cash/experience! What a concept...
