![]() 1966 Coupe -- Milano Maroon/Black Interior - - - I purchased this Coupe from Tom Shellworth at Shellworth Chevrolet in Morgan Hill, California. It was a sweet running 327/350 with a 4 speed and 3:36 positraction. It was my first Corvette that had optional power windows and power steering. I sold it to Harry Wiik, who had bought my '62 earlier, and had opened a high-performance car lot called "Riverside Motors" in Medford. Milano Maroon was one of my favorite colors at the time. I have no idea where it is today. Like so many Corvettes when sold, they tended to travel around the country more than most people did. Two colors I would love to see GM bring back for the Corvette are Milano Maroon like this nice coupe, and Monaco Orange.
![]() 1967 Roadster -- Lynndale Blue/Black Interior/Black stinger - - - This was my first big block Corvette. It was a 390/427 with all the heavy duty options, and 4 speed. I only owned this Corvette for four days and let my good friend Bernie Douglas, who had bought my blue 65 Coupe earlier, talk me out of it. I took the '65 back in trade and immediately sold it to Harry Wiik. Bernie left Oregon shortly after our trade to return to his home town in Idaho. I have no idea where the car is today.

This was my first 435/427! What a powerful, eye catching car it was! It had all the performance options, and it seemed, at the time, to be the epitomy of what a sports car could be. It, like all C2 big blocks, didn't have the "balance" of the small block, was very heavy feeling in the front end, and had a summertime heating problem -- but who cared! The only thing on the road that intimidated it were the very rarely seen 427 Shelby Cobra's. I was a college student in the small town of Ashland, Oregon, at the time, and as luck would have it, two other '67 coupes were on campus that were exactly the same color combination. The color combo was beautiful, but it suddenly looked like "all Corvettes are green".
A very good friend named Bill Moir, from Salinas, California, who owned a 350 GT Shelby and had a '66 small block coupe in Goodwood Green, saw the car when I visited Salinas and had to have it. Bill had helped me find all kinds of Corvette parts through those years -- A Bill Thomas modified '62 Rochester FI, a fully polished '64 FI, (people hated the FI systems because they didn't know how to tune them properly), knock-off's, side pipes, (the CHP was writing tickets for exhaust exiting in front of the rear wheels, even though they were a factory production item). I could pick up complete FI systems (Injection, air cleaners and distributors for $75.00 at the time!! Side pipes complete for $35 to $40, knock-off's were $100 to $125 per set of 5!!) I took his coupe in trade. Bill sold the '67 coupe a year later and bought a new 427 Cobra. The Corvette was never seen again after he sold it. Bill is still deeply involved in racing, lives in Monterey to be near the Laguna Seca Race Track.
