![]() 1968 Roadster -- Dark Metallic Blue/Blue Interior - - -
This '68 Corvette Roadster was my first C3. It was a 427/390 with a 4 speed and AC. It was the first '68 to hit the streets of little Ashland, Oregon. I didn't appreciate this body style as much as the C2, and I was beginning to feel Corvettes were heading in the wrong direction. I had this roadster for about three months until I got the "bug" to buy another coupe, mainly to try out the new t-top with the removable rear glass. I sold it to my good friend Bill McCollum who still lives in Phoenix, Oregon and he in turn eventually sold it to his brother, Mike, who lived in Chester, California.
![]() 1968 Coupe -- Yellow/Black Interior - - -
I bought a yellow coupe in San Jose, California because it had all the options I wanted at the time. Options included a 327/350, 4 speed, AC, power steering, windows and brakes. The small blocks were so nice to "tour" with and just felt good to drive. Wayne Squire from Ashland saw it the third day I had it, and, with a little pleading on his part, bought it on the spot. I was a little reluctant to sell it to Wayne because it had everything I wanted in a Corvette at the time, but I knew Richardson Chevrolet in Salinas, California, had a new '69 coupe with the new 350/350 motor. I immediately called them to be sure they still had it and to buy it.
![]() 1969 Coupe -- Monaco Orange/Black Interior - - - This beautiful 350/350 Corvette was to be my last for many years. I actually kept it and enjoyed it for two years! It was purchased at Richardson Chevrolet in Salinas and was the smoothest running and most comfortable driving Corvette I had owned to that date. It was all power with AC and a 4 speed. It remains my favorite color on a Corvette, and if GM should ever make Monaco Orange available again on a new C5 or C6, I'll be the first in line to buy one. A guy whose name I can't recall from Redding, California, who owned a muffler shop in that city, saw the '69 on the street in Medford one day, and bought it from me. He had been all over the area looking for one like mine and couldn't believe his good fortune. For some foolish reason, I decided to switch to German cars and didn't buy another Corvette until I purchased my new Pewter 2000 C5 this year. 30 years passed until I bought this new 2000 coupe from David Gulickson and Clint Thompson at Cascade Chevrolet in Klamath Falls, Oregon. It is a magnificent engineering and styling accomplishment for its price, and I expect I'll have one as long as GM continues to make them (and Clint at Cascade Chevrolet continues to give me such a good deal on another). The picture below shows a somewhat faded photo of my then beautiful wife to be. Sue is now an Associate Professor of Business at Southern Oregon University and talking about getting her own C5 roadster. The bottom picture shows how the Corvette looked with the Buick Skylark wire wheels I had installed. Chrome wire wheels weren't being produced by any wheel maker for Corvettes then - except those manufactured for some exotic foreign sports cars. They were very unique and looked especially striking on the C3. ![]()
